Environmental Certifications

Sustainable Foresty Initiative

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is a North American based non-profit that certifies forests and the paper that comes from these forests. Certified forests where the pulps are retrieved must match several key characteristics in order to protect, amongst other things, the habitat, biodiversity, and water quality of the forest.

All Vela papers are SFI and ECF certified. For more information on this certification please visit the SFI program website listed below.

Forest Stewardship Council

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organization established to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC generally has stricter, farther reaching, and more transparent standards than the SFI does as far as certifying forests and the resulting paper made from these forests. For more information on this certification please visit the FSC program website listed below.

Elemental Chlorine Free

Elemental chlorine free (ECF) paper is a certified paper that has been bleached and processed with Chlorine Dioxide rather than Chlorine gas. Chlorine Dioxide prevents the formation of Dioxins and similar compounds that are known carcinogens. All Vela papers are ECF certified papers.
